Résumé : We evaluate the long-run impacts of gifted education for high-ability students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Our analysis relies on a regression discontinuity approach based on IQ thresholds that are used to determine gifted status. We find that gifted status increases the likelihood of on-time graduation and enrollment in college for students at the IQ threshold. This improvement is driven by effects for boys. An analysis of intermediate outcomes of boys suggests that increased engagement and proficiency in math coursework are important mediators.
